The BeoLab 2000 is the second speaker from Bang & Olufsen, designed for the Beolink® system. It follows the BeoLab 3500. Created by designer Anders Hermansen, this speaker has all its electronics housed within the unit. You only need to plug in a cable for operation. Like other MasterLink products, the BeoLab 2000 is auto-configuring for easy setup.
The front panel features buttons for selecting audio sources like CD and tape. It also includes track selection and power on/off functions. Additionally, a volume control knob is conveniently located for easy access. You can also operate the BeoLab 2000 via remote control, such as the BeoLink 1000 or Beo4.
Despite its small size, the BeoLab 2000 delivers impressive sound quality. This makes it ideal for smaller rooms like kitchens and bedrooms.
When connected to the BeoSound Ouverture or BeoSound 3000 in the living room, the BeoLab 2000 provides control of various audio sources. Through its link to the Beovision Avant, you can tune in to news on TV while watching only what interests you.
This versatile active loudspeaker offers both remote and hands-on control for tape, CD, radio, timer, and volume. The included wall or corner mounting bracket simplifies installation, allowing you to place the BeoLab 2000 in the best spot.
At Bang & Olufsen, the philosophy of sound reproduction focuses on one key goal: replicating the originally recorded sound.
The company aims to preserve the artist’s intentions by avoiding unnatural elements in the acoustic image. As stated in the Bang & Olufsen catalogue 2001 – 2002, all their loudspeakers share this goal. They differ only in size, shape, and sound pressure level.
One key advantage of the BeoLab 2000 is the integration of amplifiers directly into the loudspeakers.
This design reduces the cabinet volume to one-third of what a conventional speaker would require. Known as Active Loudspeakers, this approach allows for a compact design that plays at high volumes without distortion. Pairing the amplifier, treble, and bass units helps compensate for any shortcomings. The result is music that faithfully reproduces the original instruments.
The BeoLab 2000 has a unique control knob for hands-on operation, especially useful when a remote control is unavailable.
Inside the knob is a perforated disc that interrupts a light beam in front of a sensor. This mechanism counts the number of perforations. It adjusts the sound level without wear and tear or distortion from worn-out resistors.
