BeoSound Century – A Compact and Stylish Audio System

BeoSound Century is the perfect solution for those who demand superior sound without the bulk. Designed by David Lewis, this sleek Bang & Olufsen audio system seamlessly integrates a CD player, tape deck, and FM radio into a slim 11 cm deep unit. Whether placed on a table or mounted on a wall, its space-saving design ensures it fits effortlessly into any setting. Known as BeoSound Century in Europe and BeoSound 2000 in North America, this compact stereo system is ideal for users who don’t require Beolink® connectivity. In addition, for added portability, an optional handle with a built-in active antenna is available. Its active speaker technology follows the same high standards as the renowned BeoLab speaker series. In the late 1990s, a special edition with a polished aluminium CD cover replaced the original black plastic version due to its popularity. Furthermore, the system is compatible with two stand options: a wall mount bracket and a dedicated table stand. Additionally, it can be controlled via the optional Beo4 remote control.

BeoSound Century’s Powerful Bass and Clear Sound

It features two active loudspeakers with an electronic crossover network and Adaptive Bass Linearisation, optimizing bass reproduction and sound pressure levels. As a result, it produces clear and well-balanced sound. The small two-way bass reflex loudspeakers have a net volume of just 1.1 litres. However, the large front grille allows for substantial woofer membrane diameters, enhancing sound output.

Each bass and treble component has its own dedicated power amplifier, ensuring a well-balanced sound spectrumthat remains true to the original recording. Consequently, the system maintains excellent sound quality across all frequencies. Moreover, it is capable of high-volume playback, but a built-in safety feature prevents overheating and speaker damage.

The BeoSound Century’s user-friendly controls reflect Bang & Olufsen’s dedication to craftsmanship. Each backlit push button is made from opalescent plastic, painted black inside, with text precision-cut by laser. In addition, behind each button, a diode emits a soft, evenly distributed glow. This robust yet elegant control panelensures long-lasting performance.

With 26 control buttons, intuitive operation is key. To simplify usability, only the necessary buttons for the selected function light up, guiding users seamlessly through each action. Consequently, navigating the stereo system becomes effortless.
