Bang & Olufsen Beovox IWS2000 speakers were designed for rooms where people wanted sound but no visible loudspeakers.
These speakers were built into the wall or the ceiling – for example, a bathroom or swimming pool – and were almost invisible. The grille could be painted in any colour to blend discreetly with the décor. A receiver unit could also be incorporated so that the music system could be operated from the room in which the loudspeaker was installed.
In 1992 a new type of loudspeaker was introduced to the Bang & Olufsen range. The IWS1000 passive speaker was an ‘in-wall’ unit which could be used in certain areas of the house – such as bathrooms or swimming pool areas – where music was required but where the placement of a ‘normal’ loudspeaker would have intruded.
Never meant to be waterproof as such, both the IWS1000 and its successor, the IWS2000 models could withstand humidity and damp areas and still function. Built of white plastic, both units allowed purchasers to paint their outside covers in order to blend in with a home décor.
Beovox IWS2000 was introduced as a replacement to the original IWS1000 loudspeaker in 1995 when a receiver unit could be included in order to operate music sources discretely through a Beolink around-the-home system.
After a gap of a decade or so, the loudspeaker design was replaced with BeoVox 1, a passive unit with a similar design build.
