Beocenter 7000, upon its release, stood out as one of the most advanced hi-fi centers on the market. With just one touch, you could easily access music from records, cassette tapes, or FM/AM radio stations. Moreover, illuminated symbols on the communication panel provided clear feedback, confirming your commands or indicating errors. Consequently, this feature ensured you always knew the system’s operational status.
In short, the Beocenter 7000 delivered two-way visual communication in high fidelity, which significantly enhanced the overall user experience.
Furthermore, the cordless remote control module allowed you to manage most functions from anywhere in the room. For instance, you could select a program that would power on the system, adjust the volume (2 x 40 watts RMS), make cassette recordings, and switch the unit off. Additionally, its memory and timer features enabled you to program the microcomputer for 24-hour operation. This capability allowed you to record important radio programs while you were out or even wake up to an early morning broadcast.
Moreover, each of the Beocenter 7000’s three sound sources delivered quality typically found in more expensive separate units. The record deck, for example, featured Electronic Servo Drive for precise speed accuracy and operated fully automated. As a result, you could control stop, start, or pause using the remote control. The cassette recorder included a Sendust record/replay head and a double-gap erase head that could handle metal tapes. Furthermore, you could easily locate any point on the tape by asking the microcomputer to search for the desired counter reading. Additionally, the radio allowed you to pre-set five FM and one AM station, which you could instantly select at the touch of a button.
Finally, Jacob Jensen designed the Beocenter 7000. In 1979, the Museum of Modern Art in New York recognized its significance by featuring three of his creations for Bang & Olufsen in their Design Collection.
