Beocenter 2002 received a refresh with an updated model, which was launched alongside the Beocenter 7002. This update primarily aimed to introduce a Metal tape facility. Although the necessity of including Metal tape compatibility in this model may be debatable, it became an essential feature at the time of its release. Consequently, this enhancement not only boosted its marketability but also aligned with consumer expectations.
In addition to this, the Beocenter 2002 served as a slight upgrade from its predecessor, the Bang & Olufsen Beocenter 2000, as it featured FM, LW, and MW radio capabilities. Moreover, it was equipped with an MMC 20S cartridge on the semi-automatic record deck, and it boasted a powerful amplifier that delivered 2 x 25W, making it particularly well-suited for small rooms.
Furthermore, a significant enhancement in this model was the addition of a metal tape facility in its cassette deck. This upgrade allowed for improved recording quality. However, it remains uncertain whether this machine could fully utilize the advantages of the new recording medium.
Additionally, the Beocenter 2002 included connections for both a microphone and headphones, thus providing users with more versatility. For those looking to elevate their audio setup, the optional SC20 System Cabinet was also available, offering an elegant solution to house the stereo system.

The primary distinction between the Beocenter 2000 and the Beocenter 2002 lies in the latter’s capability to record on Metal tapes, a feature absent in the former. The Beocenter 2000 was launched just before it became crucial for tape decks aspiring to quality to incorporate a Metal recording position; otherwise, they risked becoming unsaleable. Interestingly, despite this necessity, Metal tape sales never exceeded a small fraction of the overall market.
